1Drop’s advancements in diagnostic technology will greatly reduce both the time and resources required for diagnosing patients.
Traditionally, testing a blood sample involves drawing blood from the arm, transporting the sample to a lab, analysing the sample and then sometimes a second appointment with the doctor for the results.
This process can take hours in an emergency setting or sometimes weeks in primary care or outpatient setting. 1Drop Diagnostics is currently developing portable diagnostic technology that produces results in only 15 minutes.
The portable diagnostic system eliminates much of the discomfort, cost, and anxiety that comes with traditional blood tests. Using one drop of blood from a finger prick, 1Drop’s microfluidic chips contain all the elements required for testing which currently focus on biomarkers related to heart health.
The results are sent directly to a mobile app so doctors can access results quickly, and they can be shared with other care providers.
So far, 1Drop’s advancements in science have been mentioned in 22 publications and close to 10,000 drops of blood have been tested. After a recent $4.25 million fundraising round, they are well on their way to drastically improving the diagnostic pathway for patients.
