Medical 3D Printing - Axial3D
Location: Northern Ireland

Axial3D custom prints patient-specific anatomical models from a patient’s medical scans.

Axial3D is an innovative medtech startup based in Belfast that is changing the way surgeons prepare for surgery.

Medical teams submit orders to Axial3D with the patient’s medical scans. Within 48 hours, the medical team is shipped a life-size, 3D anatomical model. Rather than working off 2D scans, the 1:1 model allows surgeons to fully explore the afflicted area. Surgeons can use the model for education purposes, or as an aid when explaining the procedure to the patient.

Models can be made for orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and cardiology. According to Axial3D, the use of the model saves an average of 30-60 minutes of time spent in surgery thanks to the preoperative simulations and exploration. It can improve patient consent and offer patients a better experience when provided with an improved understanding of the operation by using the model.
