The portable 12-lead ECG is the first FDA-cleared, hospital-quality ECG that can be used at home.
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is an important test for diagnosing various heart conditions. A typical ECG involves the patient attending the clinic for an appointment to be connected to a traditional device with twelve leads. The clinic visit can be costly, inconvenient, and may not pick up on heart issues that happen sporadically, such as irregular heartbeats.
A single-lead ECG is available and can be found in many wearables like the Apple Watch, Withings Move ECG and Frontier X. However, it’s less accurate than the clinical 12-lead version. QT Medical is making the essential diagnostic test available at home with the first approved hospital-quality ECG called the PCA 500. The small, portable device connects to a single-use large patch which contains all the leads, rather than having to place them individually. This greatly reduces the chance for human error and ensures the placement is consistent each time.
Unlike the standard ECG, the QT Medical device does not require the user to be a trained medical professional. Anyone can use the PCA 500, including patients. Results from the ECG are transmitted instantly to a smartphone or tablet app, and results are stored in a HIPAA-compliant cloud for easy sharing with the patient’s medical team.
A portable, accurate option for a 12-lead ECG allows patients to monitor their health, and travelling healthcare workers to provide the important diagnostics test in the patient’s home.
