The Masimo radius PPG pulse oximeter continually monitors patients without them being attached to a device. This allows patients to move around their room without having to disconnect each time or worry about wires.
A single-use sensor is attached to the patient’s finger using a simple adhesive which is linked to a host device worn on the patient’s wrist. A reusable Bluetooth receiver is connected to a monitor which continuously displays the patient’s data as long as they are in range. The monitor can be connected to multiple receivers which helps ensure monitoring is not disrupted during transfers within hospitals.
The device enables continuous monitoring with no interruption. Patients are free to move around the room, hold their children, and go for short walks without the need for cables or being ‘plugged in’. The measurements include oxygen levels, breathing rate and heart rate. Each sensor has a four-day battery life. Clinicians can choose to receive notifications if there is a change in the patient’s condition for a fast response.
