Headspace is an app that takes users through guided meditations of various lengths and goals, depending on their needs at the time.
Studies have shown that meditation can reduce stress, increase alertness, help control anxiety, and plenty more. Mindfulness outside of meditation comes with its benefits of helping to stabilise mood, increase compassion, and grow self-control.
Headspace, which launched in 2010, wanted to teach people the skills they need to get the benefits meditation can provide. Using clinical research in their development process, they created an app where people can get everything they might need to work towards better health through meditation and mindfulness. This includes videos, guided meditations and articles – These are on topics such as sleep, stress and anxiety. Ginger has a similar focus to Headspace but offers coaching as part of its support package for employees.
Through the app, users can select from a long list of guided meditations depending on their goals. They can pick meditations for getting to sleep, focusing on work, traditional meditation, and movement meditations.
What makes Headspace stand out is their application of science to ensure users get the greatest benefit. Headspace has a science team of seven people and is in-process on more than 65 research studies.
