The Spirobank Smart is a small device for at-home respiratory monitoring. The device pairs with a mobile app that provides the patient with instructions and displays results immediately.
Regularly monitoring a patient’s respiratory system can track how a patient is recovering from surgery or illness, provide data for how a patient responds to treatment, and ensure the patient receives emergency treatment as soon as possible when needed.
Medical International Research (MIR), a medical device company founded in 1993, has created a solution for easy remote monitoring. Giving patients the ability to test their breathing accurately from home means the information can be collected as often as needed, without the stress of scheduling an appointment and travelling to a clinic.
MIR’s device, the Spirobank Smart, is a Bluetooth-enabled spirometer designed to be portable and user-friendly. Through video chat, a doctor can coach their patient through using the device. It connects to the mobile app, which provides step-by-step instructions for the patient to ensure a good test and immediately displays results. The results can be quickly sent to the patient’s healthcare team as a PDF report.
The Spirobank Smart Oxi is available as an add-on if integrated pulse oximetry is required; this allows oxygen levels to be measured. Increasingly, a growing number of digital health products seek to support patients with common conditions such as asthma and COPD. These include smart inhaler devices such as Haile and a wheeze detection device.
