Cove, a wearable developed by Feelmore Labs, reduces stress and improves the quality of sleep through neuromodulation.
The healthtech industry has seen rapid improvements in wearable technology, thanks to innovative startups. After years of “health wearable” meaning fitness trackers, there are now various options covering many different sports or health concerns. For example, smart insoles can track foot strike and pronation, a ring that monitors sleep, and a bracelet that detects a woman’s fertile days.
New York-based Feelmore Labs is another startup working towards improving lives through wearable technology. They’ve developed Cove, an easy-to-use device that incorporates neuromodulation, mood, and sleep research from MIT and Harvard.
Cove reduces stress through neuromodulation. This technology involves stimulating specific nerves. The non-intrusive device applies gentle vibrations behind the ears to modulate the insula; the part of the brain that controls emotional response. It is completely safe and shows results similar to meditation when used for twenty minutes a day. It can be used at home or in the office and at any time of the day.
Cove pairs with an app which aids in scheduling sessions and tracking progress. Clinical studies of 3500 participants found that over a 30 day period, average sleep quality increased by 50%, and stress levels decreased by 41%. Neuromodulation technology is also being used to support those suffering from tinnitus and those undergoing opiate drug misuse treatment.
