The latest portable ultrasound device is smaller with better image quality.
Ultrasound imaging is widely used in medical diagnosis and is very helpful in various situations. The images can help doctors make a diagnosis, help in certain medical procedures, but also be used in monitoring such as pregnancy. Often, the use of ultrasound imaging is limited by requiring larger machines and expertly trained professionals.
Clarius is a company seeking to change that with its mission: “Clarius Mobile Health was founded to empower every medical professional with accurate, easy to use and affordable imaging tools.”
Building on from their first handheld ultrasound device, Clarius has developed Clarius HD. This is a more powerful scanner that is smaller and still compatible with ioS and Android. The unique image quality of this device lies with the company being able to equip the scanners with Octal Beamforming technology. This is typically seen in larger machines. The technology enables it to process 8 times more data compared to other handheld scanners providing an image that is smoother, sharper and more reliable. It is also equipped with artificial intelligence assistance that powers automated adjustments such as focusing, image gain and depth adjustments in real-time.
The scanner is paired with the app so images are simply viewed on a user’s smartphone or a tablet. Each charge provides up to 45 minutes of use and there is an option to save the scans securely. The ease and portability enable ultrasound use in various clinical situations including remote areas where facilities can be limited.
