Neurotrack has developed cognitive function assessments that can be delivered remotely, with results available instantly. Remote reviews will make it easier to spot neurological changes early to preserve brain function.
Changes in the cognitive brain can begin twenty years before they are noticeable in daily life. Early detection is essential as it allows for interventions that can preserve function and even improve the condition. However, when many people seek a medical assessment, they already have regular concerns with their memory, reasoning, or fine movements.
Though regular assessments are important, many people avoid them due to the inconvenience or cost of appointments. Neutrotrack is combining technology with neuroscience to make regular assessments of cognitive function available through a mobile app.
The California-based startup, launched in 2012, has received over $50 million in funding to advance their research in Alzheimer’s testing, management, and prevention. The digital assessment tool can remotely assess someone’s cognitive function by administering questions while monitoring the user’s eye movement. The scores are automated for instant results. It’s a cost and time-effective solution for regular testing.
The Neurotrack smartphone app provides a cognitive assessment every three months with an explanation provided with the score. Example questions cover aspects such as symbol matching and pairing images which test different parts of memory. Resources are made available to the user, such as cognitive training, which aids in reducing the risk of decline.
More than 50 million people around the world are currently living with dementia. It’s a burden on healthcare systems and dramatically impacts the patient’s quality of life. Making assessments and training tools available to monitor and improve cognitive function will give people an accessible way to take control of their brain health.
