Could weigh-ins be more impactful with a smart scale?

Garmin Index Smart Scale
Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States

The garmin index smart scale automatically records several metrics, including body weight, body fat percentage, muscle mass, BMI, and more.

A traditional bathroom scale tells a person their weight and nothing more. Weight is very relevant to health as there are many medical conditions linked to being overweight and obesity. Regular weigh-ins can help motivate people with lifestyle goals and help them stay on the right track.

However, bodyweight alone is not the best indicator of overall health. For example, it does not distinguish between fat and muscle, which have significant differences when it comes to their role in overall wellness.

Smart tech and advancing health sensors are changing the way people monitor their health. People can track weight, measure body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI), and gain insights into even more advanced data such as heart strain during exercise. The Garmin Index S2 Smart Scale is a Wi-Fi connected device that provides several additional data points over traditional bathroom scales. Recordings are automatically transmitted to the Garmin Connect app on the owner’s smartphone, where they can see the results and trends.

The additional features require no special attention from the user. Users weigh in on the scale as they usually would, at the frequency they prefer. The smart weight scale records and displays their weight in the measurement of their choosing. During this process, the smart scale uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology which sends weak currents through the body. The returning currents are measured by the device, which varies depending on the fat, water, and muscle makeup of each person. This can then be used to estimate the person’s body fat, muscle mass, bone mass, and body water percentage.

Knowing the various aspects of body composition data and monitoring what is causing significant changes can empower users to make the right lifestyle changes that have the greatest impact.
