The program uses a variety of techniques to help people kick the habit at their own pace.
Around 1300 people die in the United States from smoking-related illnesses every single day. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable diseases and death in the USA, placing a substantial financial burden on the health care system while significantly impacting peoples quality of life when diseases occur.
Quitting smoking can be a challenging thing to do, with a failure rate of 95% if the smoker does not participate in a smoking cessation program. Pivot has developed a program that uses a variety of evidence-based techniques to give smokers the best chance at quitting. Along with the mobile app, users receive a carbon monoxide breath sensor so they can see the evidence of positive changes in their body as a direct result of reducing or quitting smoking in real-time.
Users are paired with a coach who helps them through the program for up to 6 months. It provides a community for peer support, and the app includes short, interactive activities such as games to help the user stay on track. Nicotine replacement is also available through the program if needed.
Almost 50% of users who attempt to quit smoking using Pivot are successful.
