United Kingdom and United States
The Quit Genius platform uses various tools, including prescriptions, peer support, and coaching, to help people with substance addictions.
Roughly 1 in 4 Americans have a substance addiction that impacts their physical health and emotional wellness. The Covid-19 pandemic is also causing alcohol and drug use to increase due to stress and uncertainty, and changing mental health. Only around 10% of Americans receive treatment for their addictions because of cost, accessibility, and feelings of shame.
Remote access to substance addiction treatment makes support available no matter the person’s physical location and provides a layer of anonymity which is important to some. Digital treatments allow more patients to be treated at once while reducing financial barriers.
Quit Genius is a digital clinic for substance addictions, including smoking, vaping, alcohol, and opioids. The program includes a physician-led care team, digital cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions, peer support, coaching, and prescriptions. Medication-assisted treatment includes Naltrexone for alcohol misuse and Buprenorphine for opioid misuse. Additionally, AI helps health professionals spot those who may need more help earlier by recognising concerning patterns.
Each new user is assigned a Quit Coach who guides them through the process and leads anonymous peer-support groups. The coach is available to evaluate the user and make changes to their plan. Depending on the addiction being treated, biochemical tests are available to monitor the progress of the member, including saliva tests and a connected breath sensor. Dynamicare is another company using sensors to track outcomes – The platform offers financial rewards for patients who are meeting their goals as both an incentive and a way of regaining independence.
Quit Genius was developed as an employee program. Addiction impacts employers due to impairment, missed workdays, presenteeism, and subsequent higher costs. Providing employees who are battling substance addiction with access to a treatment plan has a high ROI. To date, 60K people have quit smoking using the platform, and 74% of users reduced their smoking; the product has been part of seven clinical research studies.
