ClearUP is a small handheld device that uses microcurrent technology to relieve sinus pain.
Allergic rhinitis can cause sinus discomfort that lasts for weeks at a time, and it can be longer for some people. In the UK, it’s estimated to affect one in five adults. Symptoms start after being exposed to an allergen such as pollen or dust. Common symptoms include a blocked or runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, and itchiness. The severity of the symptoms can range from a mild annoyance to having a large impact on day-to-day life.
Dealing with ongoing sinus pain for weeks at a time can be extremely frustrating for the sufferer. Tivic Health has developed a non-invasive device to provide sinus pain relief that can be used on its own or in addition to medication and other remedies. The device, called ClearUP, emits low-current electrical stimulation to stimulate the nerves around the sinus.
It’s a similar electrical concept to that used in pacemakers but at a minimal level. To compare, the electrical energy is 1/1000 of the level used in TENS machines that help with muscular pains. The small handheld device only needs to be used for five minutes, twice a day, to achieve and maintain relief. A single charge can last two weeks of daily use, and the device is portable, making it a useful remedy for sufferers to take with them on the go. Increasingly, we are seeing new solutions using technology that help people with common conditions. Examples include wearables such as Cove that help with stress, and a neuromodulation device to support those suffering from tinnitus.
