The BresoDX is a wearable, at-home sleep apnoea diagnostic test. It’s an alternative to the more costly and less natural sleep clinic study.
The traditional method to test and diagnose for sleep apnoea is nocturnal polysomnography. It involves sleeping in a clinic under observation while hooked up to equipment for monitoring heart and brain activity.
The increasing demands on healthcare systems and technological advancements are driving forward startups that find innovative ways to help healthcare do more with resources and bring care closer to home. Sleep apnoea is no exception, as startups like Sunrise have shown with this at-home sleep apnoea diagnostic device.
BresoTEC, a MedTech startup in Toronto, has created an sleep apnea test at device that provides laboratory-level precision. The BresoDX is a multi-use wearable device worn by the patient while they sleep. The BresoDX actively records continuous data for up to eight hours. It is worn over the nose and mouth. It uses an accelerometer and microphone to capture data. It records the patient’s head movements and breath sounds and automatically generates a sleep report for the physician.
Having a much more comfortable, at-home version of the often overwhelming test can result in more people receiving a diagnosis and treatment for the frustrating yet common condition. Sleep apnoea can cause headaches, poor memory, mood swings, difficulty focusing, and more. Getting the proper diagnosis and help can make a significant difference in someone’s day-to-day life with the condition.
