The Pod Pro smart mattress by Eight Sleep controls temperature to keep the sleeper comfortable while monitoring their sleep continuously throughout the night.
Quality night-time rest is essential for people to feel their best during the day. In the short term, poor sleep can cause mood swings, inability to focus, and fatigue. Long term deprivation is linked to various conditions, including heart disease, changes to the immune system, and diabetes. However, in the modern world, getting enough quality sleep is challenging for many.
As technology advances, more aids are popping up on the market that use various features to either help in getting to sleep, staying asleep, or to track our slumber. Sleep tracker apps continuously monitor behaviour during sleep that can be used to inform lifestyle changes. CoolDrift, a wearable sleep aid, uses temperature to reduce brain activity during sleep.
Eight Sleep recognised the benefits of all the above and wrapped them all into their smart mattress, the Pod Pro. This connected sleep aid is available in four different sizes, from double to super king. The 12” thick, six-layer mattress is topped with a contouring foam layer to make the mattress as comfortable as it is smart.
The smart mattress is controlled from a mobile app, which is also where sleep tracking results are displayed. The mattress has dual heating and cooling, which can be set on timers in the app. Ambient sensors in the bed measure the room’s temperature and humidity and react accordingly to keep the sleeper comfortable. An intelligent alarm aims to make wake-up as pleasant as possible by silently vibrating on one side of the bed to avoid waking up the other party. Depending on the user’s preference, the mattress will gradually cool or warm-up before the alarm vibrates.
Along with all the smart features to keep people cosy during their sleep, the Pod Pro also monitors the user throughout the night. It records when the sleeper tosses and turns, their sleep time and sleep stages. After waking up, the user can access a report that includes a daily check of their heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), and breathing rate.
Both sides of the bed are controlled and monitored individually so that both sleepers can benefit from the innovative tech.
