Fossil’s new smartwatch, the Gen 5, pairs with Google Fit to monitor health progress over time. The swim-proof smartwatch tracks workouts and measures heart rate.
Fossil’s new Gen 5 LTE is Fossil’s first mobile data enabled smartwatch. The smartwatch is designed to enhance almost every aspect of daily life. People can take calls on their watch, make contactless payments, control their home devices, and use various apps without picking up their smartphone. The smartwatch has 8GB of storage so users can download larger files such as music.
Fossil didn’t forget about the health-conscious. The watch can replace fitness trackers with its built-in heart rate monitor and step counter. The device pairs with Google Fit and other health apps. These include Nike Run and Cardiogram for exercise pace, duration, and distance. The smartwatch is swim-proof, so people can safely track their swimming workouts too.
Many of the big names in smartwatches already had years, even decades of experience developing innovative technologies before releasing their wearables. This has given them a head start over Fossil because they could pack existing designs into their smartwatches. For example, the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch. On the other hand, Fossil is known as a more traditional watchmaker focused on design and fashion – They moved into the tech space with their first smartwatch in 2015 but are progressing with each version released.
