The Hydrow is a re-imagined, and re-engineered rowing machine that seeks to makes the exercise engaging and energising through virtual workouts.
Rowing is a cardio and a strength workout, engaging 86% of all muscles. This makes it a fantastic exercise for cardio fitness, strength and weight loss. The Hydrow rowing machine uses a patented electromagnetic drag mechanism – The handle is computer-controlled and is equipped with a low-stress grip. Each stroke is silent and smooth. Live and on-demand classes are available, and a variety of 6-week training camps, off equipment workouts, and unguided rows through scenic waterways from around the globe.
Workout design varies. From exercises meant to get the heart pumping and muscles burning to meditative, restorative rows, the Hydrow can be used by beginners or expert rowers. The daily, live workouts are led by Olympians and world-class rowers who talk through the exercises and provide motivation. Users have the option for on-demand classes, as each session is recorded. The 22” touchscreen display and front-facing speakers provide an immersive rowing experience, allowing users to see scenic waterways and instructors crisp and clear. A 10-roller system cushioned seat is ergonomically designed, providing for a comfortable workout. Rowing is by nature, a low-impact exercise that can improve bone density.
Also included in the Hydrow are yoga, pilates and strength training workouts that complement rowing. These camps are split into four levels: Fitness Builder, Beginner, Sprint, and Endurance. Each camp presents assessments during the first and sixth weeks so that progress is meaningful.
Each Hydrow Starter package includes a Hydrow rowing machine, a machine mat, a heart rate monitor, and headphones for $2 520. The Hydrow Pro package consists of the same amenities and yoga blocks, a foam roller, and resistance bands. The Hydrow app is available for on-the-go, machine-less workouts, and a digital-only option is available for those who want app access without the machine. Multiple users per household can have individual profiles, granting each family member a chance to row.
The Hydrow community stresses unity and is built upon encouragement and support. Live classes require participants to move in sync, just like in a real rowboat, and the session will not move forward until everyone is in sync. There is a leader board amongst the thousands of users. However, the leader board filter feature narrows members scope to people in a particular age range and gender identity to help find similar members to compare performance. Additionally, every row counts towards a donation to Water.org, a global non-profit organisation that brings water and sanitation to communities worldwide.
