The ‘Coping with Stress’ virtual reality program uses an assortment of techniques for helping users control their responses to stress.
74% of adults in the UK between 2017-2018 reported being so stressed they felt unable to cope. Chronic stress can cause a broad range of health effects, including weight gain, headaches, fatigue, and a weakened immune system, to name a few. Learning how to reduce and cope with stress is essential for a person’s overall health and wellbeing.
BehaVR is a Kentucky-based healthtech company that is working on a variety of innovative solutions for pain management, stress reduction, addiction recovery and more through virtual reality. Their ‘Coping with Stress’ program uses a range of therapeutic techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), deep breathing, mindfulness, and exposure therapy to help users understand and control their stress response.
The mindfulness-based VR program offers daily progress tracking through an assessment that uses a perceived stress scale. During sessions, users not only learn coping mechanisms but receive tailored educational experiences to help them understand their stress and the way their body responds. Guided meditations are provided to help the user reduce anxiety caused by any current stressors.
