The sleep analyser by Withings is a device that is placed under the mattress and measures heart rate, sleep quality, tracks sleep cycles, and accurately detects sleep apnoea.
Poor sleep can lead to several health effects that can greatly impact someone’s overall wellness. Understanding how a person is sleeping can provide them with valuable insights and encourage lifestyle changes that will lead to better sleep.
Withings, known for its innovative healthtech devices, has developed a sleep analyser. Unlike many sleep trackers, which must be worn, the sleep analyser is placed under the mattress and gathers data from movements and mechanical waves created by heartbeats. A concept we first spotted in Dozee, a startup located in India.
The precise sleep sensor transmits the data it collects to an app where users can view their sleep insights on an easy to understand dashboard. It does this automatically when the sleeper wakes via Wi-Fi. The analyser tracks and records sleep cycles so the user knows how much time they spend in deep sleep. It continuously monitors heart rate, sleep interruptions, and how long it takes them to get to sleep.
Users can use this information to make lifestyle changes that can improve sleep and wake up feeling more rested. For example, someone who takes a long time getting to sleep may benefit from guided meditation in the evening.
One of the most exciting features of the Withings sleep analyser is the medical-grade apnoea detection, which is enabled by a sound sensor. This sensor identifies snoring signals and when breathing has stopped. Sleep apnoea affects 1 in 5 adults, the large majority of which are unaware that they have the condition. Sleep apnoea can lead to health complications, including heart disease and stroke. The sleep analyser uses the insights to detect the presence of sleep apnoea and the severity. The user can easily share data with their healthcare team.
